About this Session:

Join APRIL and Monica Wiley with the National Disability Rights Network for a screening of their new accessible voting documentary. This event will take place after the Plated Luncheon in the Grand Ballroom - 100A. This documentary screening is about 30 minutes long and there will be time for questions afterwards. Please take this into account when planning your post-lunch sessions on Saturday.

About your Presenter:

Monica Wiley, Voting Engagement Specialist with National Disability Rights Network

Monica’s role is to develop non-partisan campaign messaging that directly engages people with disabilities and increase voter participation; garnering input from the P&A agencies; partner organizations, and relevant stakeholders. She holds an AAS in Police Sciences and Criminology from John Tyler Community College in Chester, VA, and a B.S., in Criminal Justice from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has over 15 years of experience as a Disability adviser and Organizational and Relationship Management in the public and private sector, working with state government and federal organizations, including the White House, on protecting and advancing the rights of people with disabilities and other underrepresented communities.

Her passion from this work comes from her lived experience as a person with disability, stemming from an incomplete spinal cord injury caused by a drunk driver when she was 9. She believes voting is the bedrock of our democracy–it is the freedom, ability, and independence to exercise our voice through voting without challenges and barriers. She is fighting to include voters with disabilities in the process, because in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “the time is always right to do what is right.”
