Enhancing Access in Physical Spaces Through NaviLens
Afton Harper
Session Overview:
Discover the future of accessibility in our workshop, where we will introduce NaviLens, a groundbreaking navigational technology designed to break down barriers for those who are blind or visually impaired. NaviLens codes, easily recognizable by their vibrant colors, can be scanned using the free NaviLens app without any user registration. This innovative app allows users to identify codes within a 160-degree radius, providing both audio feedback and crucial information such as distance.
NaviLens enables individuals to safely navigate facilities, locate essential amenities like bathrooms and exits, and access pertinent information such as office hours, contact details, and organization details. Additionally, NaviLens technology benefits individuals with reading or learning impairments and non-native speakers, as the app reads information in the user's preferred language.
Using empower: abilities, a Center for Independent Living in Southwest Missouri, as a case study, we will demonstrate the practical applications and benefits of NaviLens technology.
